ALL ACCESS is very proud of our RADIO RALLY POINT feature and the terrific feedback we're getting from you each time this column runs. Curated by DMR/INTERACTIVE Pres. & COO ANDREW CURRAN, this bi-weekly look at what radio can do to make itself stronger is already paying dividends to the industry with solid ideas.
As DORIAN has dominated the headlines, iHEARTMEDIA EVP/Programming TONY COLES discussed the team effort in delivering the needed information during such a terrible storm, and gave a large tip of the hat to the unsung members of the engineering team who keep their stations on-air under horrible conditions.
“We have an amazing engineering group and they obsess about keeping us on the air so programming can focus on what matters the most – our listeners."
COLES added, "The overall focus is the same. Provide the information our listeners need to protect themselves and their families, make sure our employees and their families are safe, and prepare our facilities to whether the storm."
And doing this in time of need, in the case of DORIAN, is no easy task: "There is no question that the extra time gave us more time to assess, plan and allocate resources. That is a luxury we don’t have when a tornado hits in the MIDWEST or an earthquake happens in CALIFORNIA."
Summarizing, COLES added, "Year-round, our stations raise money for the communities they serve. They know how to mobilize quickly and respond instantly.”
