A financial crisis at NEVADA PUBLIC RADIO has led to the departure of CEO FLORENCE ROGERS and the shutdown of the Triple A format at KVNV (NV89)/RENO. All four staffers at NV89 were laid off and the station will simulcast News-Talk KNPR/LAS VEGAS while the company looks to sell the station and other stations in northern NEVADA and UTAH, including KLKR/ELKO, KLNR/PANACA, KSGU/ST. GEORGE, UT, KTPH/TONOPAH, KWPR/LUND, and K263BL/CARSON CITY.
A statement from the company's Board of Directors said that former board Chair JERRY NADAL will serve as Interim CEO starting SEPTEMBER 23rd and that the board Treasurer and Governance Committee Chair will oversee financial and business operations, respectively.
ROGERS will assist the board during the transition period. "Significant business challenges that have resulted in severe cash flow issues" led to the changes, the statement said, adding, "We had great hopes for NV89 and worked very hard to seek out community financial support in RENO with only modest success."
The exiting staff are PD MALAYNA KERTON, APD/MD GIA DESANTIS and hosts DAVID HADEL and JAKE WAGNER and can be reached at: malaynajoy@gmail.com, or at (775)203-2120; giamdesantis@gmail.com, or at (775) 772-2177; davidhadel@gmail.com, or at (775) 722-8117; and jakewagnermusic@gmail.com,or at (702) 355-3363.
In an email DESANTIS said, “Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of you for your support, words of encouragement, and for being the people we can honor and speak so highly of as we go on to our next chapters. Non-Comm is such a great community, and we are forever grateful to you for taking us under your wings.”
