The NBA's PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS have made it official and named TRAVIS DEMERS as the team's radio play-by-play broadcaster. DEMERS, who hosts afternoons on BLAZERS flagship iHEARTMEDIA Sports KPOJ-A (AM 620 NBC SPORTS NORTHWEST RIP CITY RADIO)/PORTLAND, filled in for much of the last two seasons during longtime BLAZERS voice BRIAN WHEELER's medical leaves. The team announced in JULY that WHEELER, who had called the games since 1998, would not be returning (NET NEWS 7/12).
“We’re very excited to have TRAVIS join our broadcast team,” said BLAZERS Pres./CEO CHRIS MCGOWAN. “He did an incredible job helping us last season and our fans were able to hear him call some of the biggest TRAIL BLAZERS moments we’ve had in the last 20 years. He has an incredible work ethic and we look forward to our fans hearing him in his new role.”
"I’m humbled by the opportunity to call games for a franchise that I love, to work with incredible people, and share that with the best fans in the NBA,” said DEMERS, who follows BILL SCHONELY, EDDIE DOUCETTE, and WHEELER as the only play-by-play radio voices since the BLAZERS joined the NBA in 1970. “It’s the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do, it’s an absolute dream job. I’m thrilled to be able to live out that dream in RIP CITY.”
