The latest JACOBS MEDIA STRATEGIES blog, "Happy Birthday, Dear WALKMAN (Where's Your Radio)," starts off celebrating the 40th anniversary of SONY's WALKMAN (and its latest $400 iteration) then openly ponders the meaning behind the absence of a radio on the newest version of the device..
The post then wonders how broadcast radio fit in to today's earbud-listening generation, and whether indeed it has a place.
FRED JACOBS asks, "Is radio no longer a viable medium for headphone listening, contrary to the way it might have been back in those early Walkman days?...Is listening to radio on headphones still a viable, marketable activity? Is there a difference in the types of audio that are most compatible with headphones versus speakers? Or is audio audio? And is live radio 'headphone-worthy?'"
