RHETT AKINS has been named the ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC's first-ever recipient of its ACM Songwriter of the Decade Award. RHETT received the honor in recognition of the creative impact he's had as a songwriter in Country music over the last decade. The award was bestowed by the ACM Board of Directors after being reviewed by more than 20 Board members and the ACM Special Awards Committee. Committee members took elements like radio success, commercial media coverage, sales, streaming, and creative integrity, among many other factors, into consideration before naming the recipient. RHETT was awarded the title at a surprise presentation backstage at the UNITED CENTER in CHICAGO during a stop on his son, THOMAS RHETT's "Very Hot Summer Tour."
“With 30 No. 1 hits, 36 BMI Awards, and at least one No.1 in each year of this decade, we are proud to present the ACM Songwriter of the Decade Award to Rhett Akins!” announced ACM Board Chairman ED WARM at the surprise celebration.
RHETT's award is part of the new slate of seven new Decade Award categories recently created by the ACM (NET NEWS 9/4). For more information, visit www.ACMcountry.com.
