A senior executive at ST. JUDE CHILDREN’S RESEARCH HOSPITAL has sent a letter to FCC Chairman AJIT PAI praising broadcast radio for its historic and ongoing fundraising efforts for the hospital. In his letter, ST. JUDE SVP/Field Development CHRIS BOYSEN also extended an offer for the Chairman to visit the hospital, “to see first-hand the good works powered by the radio industry.”
“A powerful testament to the power of radio stations to effect positive change in the communities they serve is the $25 million raised for ST. JUDE CHILDREN’S RESEARCH HOSPITAL in just the past year,” BOYSEN wrote. “About 350 radio outlets coast-to-coast shared the hospital’s message of hope with their vast audiences, and their listeners responded in record numbers to help ST. JUDE treat and defeat childhood cancer.”
After describing the by now well-known origins of the “Country Cares For ST. JUDE Kids” program, BOYSEN continued, “Over the course of 30 years, other formats have joined Country, including Gospel, Spanish-language, Urban Contemporary, and Classic Rock, to raise nearly $1 billion for ST. JUDE.
“The public awareness and support generated through radio’s magnanimous donation of time and talent enables ST. JUDE CHILDREN’S RESEARCH HOSPITAL, which relies primarily on donations, to provide world-class care to more than 8,000 young cancer patients each year,” he added. “It also funds unparalleled research, which is shared with hospitals everywhere and makes it possible for no family to ever receive a bill from ST. JUDE.”
