Veteran broadcaster STEVE WEED announced today his retirement from radio, capping a career that has spanned nearly 50 years. WEED is leaving his current position as iHEARTMEDIA SVP Programming for CENTRAL CALIFORNIA.
“It’s been an incredible journey, from weekend shifts while in college at UCLA, right up to today” observed Weed. “I’ve spent my entire working life doing the one thing I love, never holding a job outside of radio.”
He began his career on the air, at the legendary 99X in NEW YORK and KIIS-FM in L.A. Crossing the hall to management, he successfully programmed stations in NEW YORK, DETROIT, ST. LOUIS and SEATTLE. Coming back west in 1998, he launched one of NORTHERN CALIFORNIA’s most enduring Top 40s, KDND‘(107.9 THE END)/SACRAMENTO.
WEED joined iHEARTMEDIA in 2010.
“I’ve been truly blessed to have worked with so many gifted and talented people throughout my career, and I hope along the way I’ve helped some advance their own careers.”
In closing, WEED shared a secret: “I would have done it all for free!”
