Google News Initiative's Innovation Challenge Winners Include Michigan Radio, Scripps, WBUR/Boston

The GOOGLE NEWS INITIATIVE Innovation Challenge drew 269 applications from North American news organizations and individuals looking to win GOOGLE's financial support for creative news projects, and some of the winners are from the radio and audio categories.
Audio-oriented winners include:
- MICHIGAN RADIO, for its automated Public Meeting Tracker project pulling audio from public meetings to be distributed via podcasts, smart speakers, and voice-to-text transcriptions.
- SCRIPPS, for an automated platform to produce podcast advertising using natural language processing and ad targeting.
- BOSTON UNIVERSITY News-Talk WBUR/BOSTON, for the extension of the WBUR LISTEN app to car use and voice command.
- LEE ENTERPRISES, for its Voice Brief Tool automating newspaper story conversion to audio for streaming and audio assistants.
- UNIVERSITY RADIO FOUNDATION, for its Community News Connect local news reporting platform.
- EARBANK, for the EARBANK News Exchange platform creating a marketplace for remote news audio assignments.
