WATERLOO MEDIA Alternative KROX (101X)/AUSTIN MD/PM Driver TOBY RYAN exited YESTERDAY (10/30) after a 23+ year run on 101X. The former EMMIS station was sold to SINCLAIR, which has rebranded to WATERLOO MEDIA.
TOBY posted on FACEBOOK, "Welp. After almost 24 years of being on the AUSTIN airwaves, I will be no more. I was relieved of my duties yesterday. It was not my choice. I was simply told, “New ownership wants to go in a different direction”. So be it. Always thought I would have something insightful to say. I don’t. Just trying to process it all. Radio has been my life since I moved to AUSTIN in ‘95. It’s all I know. Life will go on. Thanks for the good times AUSTIN, TX. Maybe I will see you out there."
Meanwhile, 101X PD LYNN BARSTOW says TOBY’s 2-7p slot on 101X will be held down by CJ MORGAN, who’s been doing nights at sister Classic Rocker KLBJ. CJ also has been pitching in with that station’s DUDLEY AND BOB MORNING SHOW, and continues to serve as WATERLOO MEDIA’s social media secret weapon across all eight stations.
KROX’s MD gig will remain vacant for the time being.
