HANK MCDOWELL is exiting his role as analyst on MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES radio broadcasts. In a video posted by the NBA team, MCDOWELL, who underwent brain surgery seven weeks ago, told GRIZZLIES play-by-play broadcaster ERIC HASSELTINE that he could not recover quickly enough to return to his radio post. "I gave myself a date," MCDOWELL said, "and I just can't do it."
MCDOWELL, the former NBA and college player, joined the GRIZZLIES radio crew in 2006, serving as one of two analysts (along with ELLIOTT PERRY) on the broadcasts alongside HASSELTINE. PERRY and MICHAEL WALLACE are serving as analysts this season.
“HANK has gone through so much last few months, and he has done so with grace and courage and strength,” said GRIZZLIES President JASON WEXLER. “Fans all over GRIZZ Nation routinely tuned in to hear HANK’s game analysis the past 13 years. He is special not only to GRIZZLIES basketball and TIGERS basketball, but to MEMPHIS as a whole. We will miss having him as a part of our broadcast team.”
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you, @skinnypalmer. For 13 years. For your heart.
