Former radio executive SIMON T's quiet efforts to help firefighters battle wildfires in LOS ANGELES COUNTY have been featured in a LOS ANGELES TIMES profile.
The story recounts how the LOS ANGELES COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT approached SIMON T a decade ago to build a helipad on his remote property in the SANTA MONICA MOUNTAINS to serve as a base of operations in emergencies, and the location, now called 69 BRAVO, has become a hub for choppers to refill with water from several water tanks (known as "pumpkins") to fight fires.
SIMON T, a pilot himself, has been a key player in the development of the site, although the article notes that he has been reluctant to take credit and that he lauds the firefighters instead; he has also been an "engaged landlord," the report states, working with officials and installing additional water lines, a septic system, and a road to the property, and stocks snacks and water for the firefighters and visitors.
