NPR's 'Morning Edition' Turns 40

One of NPR's flagship shows celebrated its 40th anniversary on TUESDAY (11/5). "MORNING EDITION" made its debut on NOVEMBER 5, 1979, with BOB EDWARDS as the host from the debut, when he was pulled from the afternoon "ALL THINGS CONSIDERED" on what was initially thought to be a temporary basis, through 2004. EDWARDS was originally joined by "WEEKEND ALL THINGS CONSIDERED" host BARBARA HOCTOR as co-host; HOCTOR exited after a few months.

The show, which continues to be a cornerstone of the NPR national lineup, is presently hosted by DAVID GREENE, STEVE INSKEEP, NOEL KING, and RACHEL MARTIN. It has spawned a successful daily podcast, "UP FIRST"
