ENTERCOM/SAN DIEGO Digital Content Manager NICK UPTON will depart the five-station cluster after 43 years due to a restructuring. UPTON started at Country KSON/San Diego in 1977 with weekend on-air shifts and worked his way up, gaining experience in each on-air slot over the next 36 years. During that time, he also served as KSON's MD for 14 years (1984-1998).
UPTON started work in the digital department in 1990 and remained a part of the department part-time in addition to his on air shifts until shifting into a full-time role in 2013. Most recently, UPTON managed all nine (five main stations and four HD) station web sites, social media accounts and video production, as well as working some on-air shifts on the cluster's AC KYXY and Classic Hits KXSN (Sunny 98.1) until recently, when digital department demands became too time consuming.
"Over the years, I’ve been asked how it was that I could remain with a single station for so long," UPTON tells ALL ACCESS. "Truth is, I never wanted to leave. I’ve always had the pleasure of working with a wonderful and talented series of managers and co-workers, and when you find that, it’s really something special. Over the years, while turmoil raged at other stations and companies, this group seemed to stay immune to the worst of it, avoiding -- until recently -- the pain and disruption of consolidation and severe budget cuts. As they say, the only constant is change. And change it did."
UPTON is currently seeking his next opportunity and can be reached via email here, or by phone at (619) 993-3560.
