Pensacola Host, Music Producer, Station Owner 'Papa Don' Schroeder Dies At 78

"PAPA DON" SCHROEDER, former owner of WPNN-A-W279CY/PENSACOLA, FL and a longtime radio and television host in the market, died FRIDAY (11/15) after a battle with throat cancer, reports the PENSACOLA NEWS-JOURNAL. He was 78.
SCHROEDER was an R&B and Top 40 DJ at WBSR-A and WNVY-A in the 1960s before opening a music production company in PENSACOLA in 1968; he also produced concerts and records, and is credited with having cousins JAMES PURIFY and ROBERT LEE DICKY record as JAMES AND BOBBY PURIFY and recording their hits "I'm Your Puppet" and "Shake a Tail Feather," and produced CARL CARLTON's Top 40 hit "Everlasting Love." On TV, SCHROEDER hosted a show on local cable television station and live streamer BLAB-TV. He purchased WPNN through his MIRACLE RADIO, INC. in the 1970's, and the station remains in the SCHROEDER family.
