EASTERN KENTUCKY UNIVERSITY's lease of WKYL/LAWRENCEBURG-LEXINGTON, KY from licensee DAVENPORT BROADCASTING, INC. will end on DECEMBER 16th, and the Classical format EKU has been programming on the station will move to streaming on the internet only at that time.
EKU has been leasing the WKYL signal since JULY 2011, providing a compliment to the News-Talk format of EKU's WEKU/RICHMOND-LEXINGTON, KY. But GM/Director MIKE SAVAGE said in a press release that "WEKU was leasing the frequency at a significant expense which we could just not maintain." The online version of "WEKU CLASSICAL" will include the same music and specials as on the broadcast version, including the METROPOLITAN OPERA, NEW YORK PHILHARMONIC, and CHICAGO SYMPHONY syndicated broadcasts.
