SAGA Rocker WNOR (FM99) and sister Classic Rocker WAFX (106.9 THE FOX)/NORFOLK have much to be proud of as they have set a new record of raising enough money to serve over 700,000 meals for the needy for THANKSGIVING this year.
The annual food drive took place simultaneously at four locations from 5:30a on FRIDAY, (11/22) until 3p on SUNDAY, 11/24. All food and monetary donations collected in VIRGINIA BEACH and SUFFOLK went to the FOODBANK OF SOUTHEASTERN VIRGINIA and the EASTERN SHORE. All donations made at the HAMPTON and TABB locations went to the VIRGINIA PENINSULA FOODBANK.
FM99 and 106.9 THE FOX Brand Manager, MIKE BECK noted, "More than 700,000 meals will be created for people in HAMPTON ROADS thanks to the donations raised at the 23rd Annual FM99 and THE FOX 'MAYFLOWER MARATHON,' presented by BUD’s HEATING, AIR CONDITIONING, PLUMBING and ELECTRIC. Thanks to the volunteers, organizations, client partners, and the thousands of people who made donations of food and money to support the important work of the local Foodbanks.
FOODBANK OF SOUTHEASTERN VIRGINIA AND THE EASTERN SHORE President RUTH JONES NICHOLS said, “This year presented new challenges as we experienced a shortage in donations entering the holiday season. We are grateful to our community neighbors for their generous donations during the Annual Mayflower Marathon, and we appreciate all the ways our supporters help us eliminate hunger throughout the year.”
VIRGINIA PENINSULA FOODBANK CEO KAREN JOYNER remarked, “We are so grateful to all the food and monetary donors that came out to support this event during the past three days. We have had bare shelves leading up to this event and have had to purchase several truckloads of food during the past month in order provide much needed assistance to our neighbors. It is a relief to say that, including the monetary donations we received this weekend, this event will help us provide meals to those most in need this THANKSGIVING."
