The AUSTIN CHRONICLE is restructuring its 38th Annual AUSTIN MUSIC POLL ballot “in an effort to promote inclusivity and authenticity among winners.” The new format now takes shape as a single-round, multiple-choice ballot.
According to the CHRONICLE, this year’s first-round nominees are being chosen by a collective body of AUSTIN music experts. A consensus of five names in each of the 51 categories will then be voted on by the public JANUARY 2nd – 28th. Announcement of POLL winners happens at the AUSTIN MUSIC AWARDS on MARCH 11th at ACL LIVE at the MOODY THEATER as well as at its sister event, the AUSTIN MUSIC INDUSTRY AWARDS on MARCH 2nd at EMO’s.
The CHRONICLE’s modification of the AUSTIN MUSIC POLL syncs up with a year of change for the AUSTIN MUSIC AWARDS, chiefly organized by The SOCIETY FOR THE PRESERVATION OF TEXAS MUSIC, a new nonprofit preserving, archiving, and celebrating TEXAS music, film, and culture via events and projects.
