MARIE FREDRIKSSON, singer for the SWEDISH pop duo ROXETTE, which scored several hits in the late-80s and early-90s, died MONDAY at age 61 after a 17-year battle with cancer (NET NEWS 12/10).
ROXETTE, which also featured guitarist and singer PER GESSLE, was a hugely successful group with a string of hits including 1989's No. 1 smash hit “The Look” and “It Must Have Been Love” (used in the movie "PRETTY WOMAN").
In 1986, FREDRIKSSON joined with GESSLE to form ROXETTE, and the group’s debut single, “Neverending Love”, and the 1986 album “Pearls of Passion", made them stars in SWEDEN. Their big break came with singles including “Listen to Your Heart”, “Joyride”, “Dressed for Success” and “Sleeping in My Car”.
