Yesterday (3/3), HUBBARD RADIO KNUC (98.9 THE BULL)/SEATTLE morning host FITZ spoke to mental conditioning coach TREVOR MOAWAD, challenging him about comments MOAWAD made regarding Country music. MOAWAD is the coach who advised SEATTLE SEAHAWKS Quarterback RUSSEL WILSON against listening to Country music because he feels like it can have a negative impact on the listener. During the interview, FITZ surprised the coach with a response from PEARL RECORDS' GARTH BROOKS.
In the interview with FITZ, MOAWAD said, "15 minutes after I listen to 'Cop Car' by SAM HUNT, all I want to do is go and play in traffic," to which FITZ shot back, "That sounds like a personal problem." The two argued a bit about MOAWAD's knowledge of Country music and the format as a whole, before FITZ decicded to "go straight to the top" and have BROOKS weigh in with an opinion.
In a recorded interview FITZ played for MOAWAD, BROOKS said, "If we're not steeped in something, our first thing is to think stereotypically of it." He then added, "I think if he digs in he'll find music that is intelligent, music that reflects everyday life, and for me, is the most inspiring piece of work that you can find on the radio dial. So maybe it's just what inspires different people, but for me, I'll stay with Country music."
MOAWAD noted several times that, while growing up, his dad wouldn't let him listen to Country music, to which FITZ cleverly replied, "Well, I think GARTH said it best. 'Blame it all on my roots.'"
