UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA News-Talk WUSF/TAMPA and COMMUNITY COMMUNICATIONS News-Talk WMFE/ORLANDO are partnering to cover the 2020 election in an initiative backed by a $60,000 grant from the CORPORATION FOR PUBLIC BROADCASTING. "I-4 VOTES" is part of the CPB's "AMERICA AMPLIFIED: ELECTION 2020" project.
Reporters from both stations will be filing stories about voters living in the I-4 corridor between ST. PETERSBURG and DAYTONA BEACH. The stations will also hold town hall events. WMFE News Dir. MATTHEW PEDDIE and Reporter ABE ABORAYA and WUSF News Dir. MARY SHEDDEN and Reporter STEVE NEWBORN are heading coverage.
"To most of the country, the I-4 corridor is a political bellwether," said WUSF GM JOANN UROFSKY. “Instead of covering the horse race, we’re spending this year listening to residents and telling stories about the issues that matter here when selecting the president of the UNITED STATES."
"We will engage deeply with communities to ensure that voters' voices are heard in our coverage of the issues that matter to them," added WMFE President/CEO ERIKA PULLEY-HAYES. "We are committed to uncovering stories from the public – stories that aren’t being told by other media outlets."
