The band PEARL JAM have announced they are postponing the North American leg of their 2020 tour due to concerns over the Coronavirus.
The SEATTLE band took to their TWITTER account yesterday (3/9) and in the first of a series of tweets said, "As residents of the city of SEATTLE, we’ve been hit hard and have witnessed firsthand how quickly these disastrous situations can escalate. Our kids’ schools have closed along with universities and businesses."
The first show on the Gigaton 2020 tour was to take place MARCH 18 in TORONTO. A check of the band's website shows that all dates scheduled through the end of APRIL have been canceled. These shows are to be rescheduled at a later date. Those shows scheduled for later this year in GERMANY are still on - for the moment.
A later tweet read, "Here in SEATTLE what we are witnessing we would not wish for anyone. What we do wish for the rest of the country is that they can avoid the harsh negative effects of this and retain their sense of community and take care of one another."
The band said that people who have tickets should hold onto them, as they will honored for the new dates, adding that TICKETMASTER has said they will reach out to ticket holders with more details.
