KUOW/Seattle Won't Air White House Coronavirus Briefings Live, Citing 'False Information And Exaggeration'

UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON News-Talk KUOW/SEATTLE will not air WHITE HOUSE briefings on the COVID-19 CORONAVIRUS pandemic live on a daily basis, citing President TRUMP's "pattern of false information and exaggeration" and the inability to fact-check the briefings in real time. The station will cover the briefings, but will not air them live.

A statement posted at the station web site noted that the move "has caused some to question whether this decision was politically based. It was not." The statement pointed out that KUOW has aired the briefings live for two weeks, but the President's comments "increasingly had many at KUOW questioning whether these briefings were in the best service of our mission -- to create and serve a more informed public. Of even greater concern was the potential impact of false information on the health and safety of our community." The station will "revisit this decision daily," the statement said.
