Former SUSQUEHANNA Sports KNBR-A/SAN FRANCISCO host LARRY KREUGER and morning show producer TONY RHEIN are suing the station for their firing, reports the SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE's MATIER AND ROSS column.
KREUGER was suspended for comments about the SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS and what he called their "brain-dead CARIBBEAN hitters hacking at slop," and KREUGER, RHEIN, and PD BOB AGNEW were fired after a morning show bit several days later that mocked GIANTS manager FELIPE ALOU for calling KREUGER "a messenger of Satan." AGNEW quickly landed at crosstown CLEAR CHANNEL Talk pair KNEW-A and KQKE-A as PD.
The suit charges that the station fired the plaintiffs in order to "appease the GIANTS to sell" KNBR along with the rest of SUSQUEHANNA's radio holdings. The suit alleges breach of contract and defamation.
