Tower-damaged COX Urban AC WCFB (STAR 94.5)/ORLANDO returned to the air at 2:37p following an extensive period of being off the air on FRIDAY as the result of deadly storms, which included tornadoes, in the area.
WCFB & WPYO VP/GM BRIAN ELAM wrote this email to the company:
"Wow this is an amazing story. At 4 a.m. STAR 94.5 goes off the air. At 7a we find out we are off the air because we have lost our tower and our transmitter building to a high powered tornado. It is a disaster. The #1 rated station in ORLANDO is off the air and who knows for how long. We are hoping by SUNDAY night we will be back. But, NO!!! A crack team of engineers have us back and on the air at 2:37p.
"Ten and a half hours later the station that our listeners had seen video of on television completely destroyed is back up and running. Why? Because of an incredible group of engineers dedicated to keeping us broadcasting. STEVE, DENNIS, RICK, RICH and ROBERT ...THANKS!"
