According to THE HILL, the incident at the 2022 ACADEMY AWARDS Ceremony between WILL SMITH and CHRIS ROCK resulted in at least 66 complaints to the FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION (FCC). The complaints mostly condemned SMITH and his display of violence on a show where millions of parents were watching with their children. Many of the complaints called on the FCC to not allow the program to air anymore, or to penalize the CBS Network/Oscars for violation of "Code of Conduct" rules.
Situations like this happen in radio almost every day, and we as an industry take for granted that at any given time, obscene, indecent and/or profane content can lead to the loss of an FCC License to broadcast. So why do we continue to force the issue and drive all the way up to the line when it's not necessary to do so? We only run the risk of causing tune out or worse. That can be detrimental to both the brand and its clients. In this week's "The Bigger Picture," MC MEDIA's CHARESE FRUGE' reminds us of the rules regarding content and why it's unnecessary to cross the line. Click here to read more.
