Country singer-songwriter JAMEY JOHNSON was inducted into the GRAND OLE OPRY on SATURDAY night (5/14), by his mentor and fellow OPRY member BILL ANDERSON. Asked by ANDERSON what the night felt like, JOHNSON replied, “I prayed for it every day and hoped it would come … I’ve been talking about this moment since I was a kid.” Said ANDERSON, “Well this is proof our prayers do get answered.”
During the evening, JOHNSON performed with RICKY SKAGGS, who was celebrating his 40th anniversary as an OPRY member.
JOHNSON was invited by ANDERSON to join the OPRY cast in MARCH (NET NEWS 3/21). The songwriting partners previously scored a hit with the ACM and CMA Award-winning co-write, “Give It Away.”
JOHNSON first performed on the OPRY stage in 2005, and has been a frequent guest since then. Watch his induction here.
