The AARP is taking a deep dive into Country music with the JUNE/JULY issue of its publication, AARP THE MAGAZINE. Among the features are an interview with KANE BROWN and a collection of quotes from Country music stars, including DOLLY PARTON, SHANIA TWAIN, LORETTA LYNN, WYNONNA JUDD, CLINT BLACK, ZAC BROWN, and others, taking what they treasure most about AMERICA, and how music continues to be a driving force in uniting diverse communities.
Also in the issue, celebrity Country music fans, including RINGO STARR, LESTER HOLT and TERRY BRADSHAW, talk about why they love the genre and how it has shaped them. The special report also shines a spotlight on the diversifying NASHVILLE music scene, with a feature about how "new artists like LIL NAS X and BRITNEY SPENCER are changing Country from within ... and an examination of the broadening inclusion," according to AARP PR materials.
In his interview, KANE BROWN spoke with the magazine about diversity in Country music, saying, “There is absolutely room to make more progress, but the truth is this has always been a format with fans that looked and are diverse, but the industry on the other side hasn’t always fully reflected that. I hope that by the time my daughter is a little older, she sees herself when she looks at all areas of entertainment, including Country music.”
There's also a quiz for readers to test their knowledge of Country music, a playlist of "essential Country songs," and a travel guide to iconic Country music sites across the U.S., including museums, concert venues, and "backroom spots where music history was made."
The issue is available to AARP members starting in JUNE, and online now here.
