A lawyer for singer RICKY MARTIN told NBC NEWS his client will "directly address the judge at the hearing," and deny allegations that he had a romantic or sexual relationship with his nephew.
The allegations against MARTIN emerged earlier this month in PUERTO RICO, where a judge granted a temporary restraining order against Martin, after the singer's half-sister went to court on behalf of his nephew demanding an order of protection, saying the nephew now "fears for his safety" after what was called a "romantic relationship" was ended. The court appearance was held "ex-parte," meaning neither MARTIN or his nephew were in court at the time.
MARTIN has previously denied any claims that he engaged in a seven-month sexual or romantic relationship with his 21-year-old nephew. NBC NEWS previously reported that one of MARTIN's lawyers had said the person who made the claims, "is struggling with deep mental health challenges."
On JULY 3rd, MARTIN posted on his TWITTER page a statement saying, "The protection order entered against me is based on completely false allegations, so I will respond through the judicial process with the facts and the dignity that characterize me. Because it is an ongoing legal matter, I cannot make detailed statements at this time. I am grateful for the countless messages of solidarity, and I receive them with all my heart."
MARTIN, who is currently in CALIFORNIA preparing for a performance at the HOLLYWOOD BOWL scheduled for this weekend, is expected to testify via ZOOM at a hearing scheduled for THURSDAY which will also decide whether to extend the restraining order.
