Impala Wants Improved Access To European Radio Following U.S. Payola Settlement

European independent label coalition IMPALA is calling for specific measures in EUROPE for independent artists and record companies to improve access to radio. The news comes on the heels of the agreement struck between A2IM and CLEAR CHANNEL, CBS RADIO, ENTERCOM and CITADEL to provide 8,400 half-hour segments of free airtime for independent labels and local artists -- a side deal to the $12.5 million settlement with the FCC.

"A similar assessment should be carried out on European radio," IMPALA Pres. and NAIVE/FRANCE Pres./CEO PATRICK ZELNIK. "The FCC investigation has shown just how vulnerable the market is when access is not guaranteed. EUROPE is one of the most diverse regions in the world with extremely talented artists, and its airwaves should reflect this."

IMPALA Chairman and BEGGARS GROUP/UK Chairman MARTIN MILLS said, "This is a very significant first step in this area, and A2IM has done an amazing job in achieving this> Now we need to build on this."
