The BUFFALO BILLS have confirmed that radio play-by-play voice JOHN MURPHY's absence from MONDAY night's ill-fated game in CINCINNATI was due to MURPHY suffering a stroke last weekend.
A statement from the NFL team said that MURPHY, 67, "is recovering at home with his family and making progress every day. JOHN and the MURPHY family are grateful for the excellent care by the staff and doctors at BUFFALO GENERAL MEDICAL CENTER. We appreciate everyone’s support."
CHRIS BROWN will again fill in for MURPHY this weekend. Details of MURPHY's illness were not disclosed before MONDAY night's game, which was stopped and later cancelled after the cardiac injury suffered by safety DAMAR HAMLIN in the first quarter. HAMLIN remains in critical condition in CINCINNATI MEDICAL CENTER but as of FRIDAY afternoon is showing signs of recovery.
