Former CLEVELAND BROWNS quarterback BERNIE KOSAR was dropped from his contributor position on the BROWNS' in-house radio shows and his ambassador duties for the team before YESTERDAY's game, and CLEVELAND.COM reports that the move was made due to KOSAR placing a bet on the BROWNS for charity as the first legal sports bet in OHIO. The NFL prohibits employees and contractors from betting on teams with which they are associated.
KOSAR, who bet $19,000 on the BROWNS through TIPICO SPORTSBOOK, tweeted that the team told him "my services are no longer desired or needed. I will not be doing todays radio program. I am shocked & disappointed. Brown & Orange is my life.” He had been appearing on a regular basis on BROWNS radio programming.
The BROWNS tweeted a statement saying that under NFL policy, "we were required to remove him from our pregame radio coverage for the season finale after he violated the NFL gambling policy by placing a bet on an NFL game. We understand what BERNIE means to this community and our history but as team contracted personnel hired to provide content on our media platforms, his bet was a violation of NFL rules and we must adhere to all NFL policy.”
KOSAR continues to host "THE BERNIE KOSAR SHOW WITH HANFORD DIXON," a streaming video show for BIGPLAY.COM sponsored by TIPICO.
