TRITON DIGITAL's first U.S. Year-End Podcast Report includes the statistic that podcast downloads increased by 20% year-to-year for 2022, with listeners downloading an average of 3.8 hours per week. The study includes data from TRITON's Podcast Metrics and Podcast Metrics Demos+ along with a Demos+ survey conducted with SIGNAL HILL INSIGHTS.
Other takeaways include that listeners downloaded an average of 5.6 episodes per week, with News, Comedy, and True Crime leading all genres; over 25% of listeners are aged 25 to 34, skewing towards male; podcast listeners index higher for household income, education, and ethnic diversity; and the most downloaded podcast was "NPR NEWS NOW," with "RACHEL MADDOW PRESENTS: ULTRA" the leading new show. The report also includes rankers of the top 20 sales networks and podcasts for the year, including networks and shows opting into TRITON's measurement (which leaves out networks like iHEARTMEDIA, SPOTIFY, and PODCASTONE and shows like "THE JOE ROGAN EXPERIENCE").
