Report: Madonna Biopic Scrapped As Singer Embarks On World Tour

VARIETY is reporting the planned biopic of MADONNA that she was expecting to direct herself for UNIVERSAL PICTURES has been scrapped. The project was reportedly supposed to star JULIA GARNER. Speculation is that the project got scrapped after the singer announced her upcoming world tour last week, which has sold out over 35 shows internationally so far.

Insiders familiar with MADONNA told VARIETY her sole focus Is the tour, but she remains committed to making a film about her life one day. Announced in 2020, development on the film lingered on through the end of 2022. Madonna worked on two script drafts and an earlier version was written with OSCAR winner DIABLO CODY. Last June, Variety broke the news that Emmy and GOLDEN GLOBE winner GARNER had won the role of the pop icon. But due to her new focus (the tour), the project has been postponed indefinately.
