Gilbert Succeeds CEO Zier

ESPN RADIO GM BRUCE GILBERT heads down the ATLANTIC coast to join DAN SNYDER's RED ZEBRA BROADCASTING as CEO, replacing BENNETT ZIER, who departed the company yesterday (3/21). GILBERT joined ESPN in 2003 after a long tenure at SUSQUEHANNA's DALLAS cluster as Dir../Programming. He has been in radio since the age of 14 and became PD at KBIU/LAKE CHARLES, LA at 22, later programming KTSR/COLLEGE STATION, TX; WVAF/CHARLESTON, WV; and WTAE-A and WVTY/PITTSBURGH.

"RED ZEBRA offers an extremely unique opportunity to get back into the exciting world of local radio, where I spent 26 years before joining ESPN," said GILBERT. "While many ill-informed pundits have recently painted radio as old and dead, I know radio works and I’m excited to join the RED ZEBRA team so that we can collectively make radio relevant to our listeners and valuable to our advertisers. I’m also looking forward to working with DAN SNYDER and being realigned with MARK SHAPIRO [who previously served as EVP at ESPN]."

ZIER said, "I informed RED ZEBRA recently that I there were opportunities I wished to pursue of a broader nature. I agreed to stay on until my replacement was identified and now leave RED ZEBRA in good hands. I’m proud to have been instrumental in the launch of what I believe will become a force in sports broadcasting."

RED ZEBRA, owned by REDSKINS owner SNYDER, owns the "TRIPLE X ESPN RADIO" simulcast in the WASHINGTON market as well as stations in RICHMOND and NORFOLK.
