DAVIDSON MEDIA GROUP is selling four stations for a total of $7.1 million. Gospel WDRJ-A (REJOICE 1440)/DETROIT is being sold to COMMUNICOM, while Regional Mexican daytimer WCXN-A (FIESTA MEXICANA)/HICKORY, NC and silent KXLQ-A/INDIANOLA-DES MOINES go to SIMA BIRACH and Jazz WAKX/NARRAGANSETT PIER-PROVIDENCE goes to THE FOUNDATION FOR OCEAN STATE PUBLIC RADIO (RHODE ISLAND PUBLIC RADIO). JOHN PIERCE AND CO. is serving as exclusive broker for the first three deals, and MICHAEL BERGNER served as broker for the WAKX deal.
DAVIDSON MEDIA Pres. PETER DAVIDSON says, "Although we have been satisfied with the performance of the four stations that we announce we are selling today, we have sold them to deploy more dollars into the Hispanic radio market. DMG is now in 23 markets with leading Hispanic-formatted stations, and we think there is continued opportunity both within our existing markets and in new markets in our core business, Spanish-language radio."
RHODE ISLAND PUBLIC RADIO is also buying noncommercial WRNI-A/PROVIDENCE from BOSTON UNIVERSITY. A previous attempt by B.U. to sell WRNI and sister WXNI-A./WESTERLY drew loud opposition from public radio supporters in RHODE ISLAND; B.U. will spin off WXNI once the sale is consummated.
