Michigan Broadcasters Hand Out Awards

Among the MICHIGAN ASSOCIATION OF BROADCASTERS' 2006 Broadcast Excellence Awards winners, awarded last week, CBS News WWJ-A/DETROIT, CLEAR CHANNEL Talk WOOD-A/GRAND RAPIDS, LENAWEE BROADCASTING AC WLEN/ADRIAN, and MIDWEST FAMILY STATIONS Talk WSJM-A/ST. JOSEPH took home Station of the Year honors in their respective market categories. Public Broadcasting Stations of the Year were WGVU/GRAND RAPIDS and MICHIGAN RADIO.
In the DETROIT market category, WWJ took top honors in six categories, with ABC Talk WJR-A/DETROIT winning five. In Network Radio categories, MICHIGAN TALK NETWORK won four categories, as did SPARTAN SPORTS NETWORK, which also took five second-place merit awards. MICHIGAN RADIO NETWORK won the Hard News Story award and the merit slot in the same category, while GLENN HAEGE's "HANDYMAN SHOW" won two merit awards, for Broadcast Personality and for Special Interest Programming.
