SURFACE singer/songwriter DAVID TOWNSEND has been found dead inside his NORTHRIDGE, CA home. DAVID was the son of the late legendary singer/songwriter/producer ED TOWNSEND, who was responsible for co-writing "Let's Get It On" with MARVIN GAYE.
DAVID TOWNSEND wrote, produced and performed with many top artists, including ARETHA FRANKLIN, THE ISLEY BROTHERS, SISTER SLEDGE, NEW EDITION and JERMAINE JACKSON. Along with his fellow SURFACE singers BERNARD JACKSON and DAVID "PIC" CONLEY in 1987, he also recorded hits such as "Happy" "Closer Than Friends," "Shower Me With Your Love" and "The First Time." The cause of death is unknown. He was 50.
