Sad news on MUSIC ROW today, as 903 MUSIC/NASHVILLE has closed. The word comes from NEAL McCOY, founder and owner of the label. NEAL, of course, is also a very popular Country artist. Here is his statement in its entirety.
“I am sad to announce the closing of 903 MUSIC. The truth is that after two great years of success due to the hard work of a lot of wonderful people, we flat ran out of money, end of story. We just didn’t feel like we could keep running and do the things we needed to do to continue being successful without the proper finances, and instead of not giving our artists the very best shot at radio, as well as all our employees the proper resources to work with, we felt like we should start the process of closing the label. The toughest part of this whole thing is not knowing what’s going to happen to the artists. DARRYL WORLEY is one of the greatest artists I know, who could have gone anywhere when he signed with us. I’m sure, if they’re smart, the other labels will be knocking down his door the second they read this news. And the DREW DAVIS BAND is destined to be the next BIG thing in country music, and very soon. The sad part for me is that I won’t be there to celebrate with them. I know they’re going to do great things in this business, so come to think about it, the only one I really have to worry about is me. I know nobody’s dumb enough to overlook an artist that is capable of selling a million albums at the drop of a hat (ok, maybe that’s a slight exaggeration). Anyway, I want to thank all the folks at 903 for all your hard work and dedication and the whole country music industry for letting me take a shot at this label thing and if anyone’s looking for me, I’ll be out on the road doing what I do best…entertaining people.”
... we flat ran out of money, end of story.
