The SUNDAY overnight (11/6) tornadoes that devastated both NEWBURGH, IN and parts of EVANSVILLE, IN -- click here for CNN coverage -- killed 22 and put hundreds in the hospital, destroyed hundreds of homes, as well as ELLIS PARK HORSE RACING TRACK. Thankfully, the twister didn't affect antenna and tower manufacturer ELECTRONICS RESEARCH located in NEWBURGH, but reportedly it did seriously damage crosstown DIELECTRIC TOWERS.
The SOUTH CENTRAL/EVANSVILLE cluster got right into action as Top 40 WSTO (HOT 96) PD STAN PRIEST tells ALL ACCESS that HOT 96 morning show duo BOOKER & SARAH came in and began broadcasting non-stop emergency information to their listeners about where shelters, and supplies were located up until 4p. The music is back on the air, mixed with emergency contact info for those in need.
On WEDNESDAY (11/9), SOUTH CENTRAL along with local TV stations FOX WTVW TV, WB WAZE TV-19, PBS WNIN, and NBC WFIE TV-13 are all joining to put on a TV and Radiothon at the EASTLAND MALL to raise money and awareness. More details at www.hot96.com.
