THE NEW YORK POST reports to sing in this recording studio, you'd better have pipes of gold. Carrying a price tag of $1.065 million, the state-of-the-art room, housed on the bottom floor of socialite DENISE RICH's FIFTH AVENUE penthouse, is the most expensive personal recording studio in MANHATTAN -- and quite possibly the nation.
With views that extend westward from CENTRAL PARK to the HUDSON RIVER, the studio is the linchpin in RICH's efforts to build up her record label, 785 RECORDS + PUBLISHING.
"There aren't many people investing a million dollars in recording studios anymore," said label President MARK EICHNER. "When we told DENISE that we wanted to build a creative haven dedicated to artist development, all she said to us was, 'Do it right.' "
Completed in late APRIL, the studio marries the latest in digital recording technology with old-school analog equipment. The single most expensive piece of equipment is the SSL AWS 900+ soundboard, which carries a price tag of $250,000. The collective assortment of microphones, speakers and amplifiers cost a combined $44,000.
