Study Shows Canadian Radio Listening Down

A STATISTICS CANADA-CRTC-DEPARTMENT OF CANADIAN HERITAGE study shows Canadians listening less to radio in 2006. 

Average listening for persons 12+ was 18.6 hours during "measurement week" last FALL, as opposed to 19.1 hours/week in 2005. The losses came primarily from continued significant drops in listening among teens 12-17 (7.6 hours/week, off from 8.6 last year) and adults 18-24. Listening increased in NOVA SCOTIA, NEW BRUNSWICK, and NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR, and declined in all other provinces, with the largest slips in QUEBEC, PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND, and SASKATCHEWAN. 

AC was the leading format, taking 22.3% of listening, followed by "gold-oldies-rock" (12.9%), the CBC (11.6%), Talk, and Country.
