CRTC Grants New Montreal, Nova Scotia FMs

The CRTC has awarded a new FM in MONTREAL to CANADIAN HELLENIC CABLE RADIO LTD. and another new FM at VAUDREUIL-DORION to YVES SAUVE, the latter on a conditional basis pending selection of a new frequency. The companies beat out six other applicants for the two slots. CANADIAN HELLENIC will use 106.3 FM with 190 watts for a multiethnic format station, and SAUVE plans a French commercial station at a dial position to be determined.
In SYDNEY, NS, BARRY MAXWELL MARTIN has been awarded a new station on 103.5 FM with 26,500 watts and a Rock format, while NEWCAP has won a new station on 101.9 FM with 57,000 watts and a Classic Rock/Mainstream Rock hybrid format. In KENTVILLE, NS, NEWCAP won its bid to launch a Classic Hits station on 89.3 FM with 9,900 watts.
Also approved by the CRTC is the sale by CANWEST MEDIAWORKS of Top 40/Rhythmic CKBT (91.5 THE BEAT)/KITCHENER and Jazz CJZZ (COOL FM 99.1)/WINNIPEG to CORUS' CORUS PREMIUM TELEVISION subsidiary for C$14.5 million, with the proviso that CORUS submit an C$870,000 benefits package to the Commission within 30 days.
