BRIDGE RATINGS’ just-released second quarter consumer preview uncovers some fascinating trends with satellite radio services:
* Net attrition rates for both services continue to increase.
“Because XM and SIRIUS calculate 'churn' differently, official churn rates are difficult to nail down,“ explains BRIDGE Pres./CEO DAVE VAN DYKE. “However, our interviews with current and former satellite radio subscribers coupled with gross and net subscriber figures reveal attrition is growing placing extreme pressure on new subscriber acquisition strategies for both companies.”
* After months of downward trending consumer interest in satellite radio, a slight improvement was seen in MAY/JUNE.
* Current and potential satellite radio subscribers’ perceptions of a proposed merger still points to a lack of confidence that a merger is in the public interest.
