Former SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS, NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS and JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS wide receiver J.J. STOKES gets a full-time radio gig as 1-4p co-host at CITADEL Sports KESP-A (AM 970 ESPN RADIO)/MODESTO-STOCKTON, starting JULY 30. Afternoon host GEOFF "THE MOUTH" SHEEN moves from 4-7p to join STOKES as 1-4p co-host. JIM WELLS takes over 4-7p from "THE MOUTH."
STOKES has been hosting a weekly show, "THE 49ERS FAITHFUL FIX," on the station and has also handled analysis for ARENA FOOTBALL 2 STOCKTON LIGHTNING games on SAN JOAQUIN BROADCASTING Oldies KSTN-A/STOCKTON.
"This is a great opportunity because it’s the next best thing to being on the field. Now, I can take our listeners inside the game without being suited up or taking any hits," said STOKES, who no longer has to worry about incidents like the infamous time BILL ROMANOWSKI spat in his face during a game. "Our listeners can expect the truth. I will tell them what the players are really thinking. I think that’s what makes for great Talk radio. That’s what I will bring to the listeners. This is coming from an athlete’s perspective from inside the game."
