EDUCATIONAL MEDIA FOUNDATION is swapping KSFQ/WHITE ROCK-SANTA FE and various cash consideration and donations totalling $141,000 to SANTA FE COMMUNITY COLLEGE for noncommercial Variety KSFR/SANTA FE. EMF bought KSFQ from CLEAR CHANNEL and flipped it from Jazz to a simulcast of KSFR in preparation for the swap on JULY 8. KSFR, a class A, has an application on file with the Commission to move to a full class C facility. The college will retain the calls and format of KSFR on the KSFQ facility; EMF will cover the college's tower rent and engineering costs for 36 months.
In another deal filed with the FCC, the licensee of Country-Adult Standards WPLK-A/PALATKA, FL, FLORIDA RADIO, LLC, restructures as FLAGLER COUNTY BROADCASTING, LLC, with JAMES E. MARTIN increasing his interest from 50 to 70% and GARY SMITHWICK upping his interest from 25 to 30%. The increases come from the individual 12.5% interests held by WILLIAM G. BROWN and CLIFTON G. MOOR. FLORIDA RADIO's purchase of WPLK from WAYNE and BARBARA BULLOCK for $400,000 was approved by the FCC on JULY 18.
And SCOTT POWELL is putting the construction permit for a new AM at ELKO, NV in a joint venture with FRED WEINBERG's ELY RADIO LLC, with POWELL getting $25,000 and a loan for construction and one year's operation for his interest. The deal involves an LMA by ELY for one year and an option for POWELL to buy out ELY RADIO LLC for the outstanding amount of the loan at the end of the first year. ELY RADIO LLC also owns KELY-A/ELY and bought KWNA-A-F/WINNEMUCCA, NV and two translators from SHEEN BROADCASTING CO. late last year.
