When the sleepy but revenue-starved hamlet of GIRRARD, OH installed those newfangled traffic lights with cameras to catch drivers blowing through intersections when the light is red, CUMULUS Top 40 WHOT (HOT 101)/YOUNGSTOWN PD JOHN TROUT's fertile but devious mind got to work.
He talked with the HOT 101 WAKE UP CREW -- AC, KELLY & LOBOY -- and came up with a killer spoof. They sent LOBOY out to an intersection with one of the new signals, and via cell he was describing cars approaching the intersection, while AC, KELLY told listeners that they were watching them through the local cable system approach the intersection -- and told to honk and wave.
The bit was so successful that many drivers bit on the gag, and one the local TV stations called and ask what cable channel the feed was coming through!
