The CRTC has approved an additional low-power FM transmitter for HALLIBURTON BROADCASTING's Variety CKNR (MOOSE FM)/ELLIOT LAKE, ON to improve the station's coverage on the northern side of its city of license. The station's primary 94.1 signal transmits from well southeast of the city and the new 98.7 FM transmitter will fill in the gap in parts of ELLIOT LAKE.
The Commission also approved the UNIVERSITY OF MONTREAL's campus station CISM/MONTREAL's application to allow the station to air fewer Canadian music selections than normally required under Category 3 (special interest music), accepting CISM's contention that its Category 3 programming -- world music -- by nature contains very little Canadian content. The station's CanCon requirement for the category has been reduced from 12% to 9%.
The CRTC also approved NORTHERN NATIVE BROADCASTING Classic Rock CFNR/TERRACE, BC's application to delete its repeater at METLAKATLA, BC and add one at PRINCE RUPERT on MOUNT HAYS. The station said that the METKAKATLA transmitter was remote and failed regularly, while the PRINCE RUPERT site would be accessible all year and provide better coverage of the area.
