Musicians called in to share their stories and memories of HILLY KRISTAL, the late founder of CBGB, during a one hour special tribute show hosted by MARKY RAMONE. The show aired last night on SIRIUS Satellite Radio’s PUNK channel.
RICHARD 'HANDSOME DICK' MANITOBA of THE DICTATORS said, "He liked the Dictators -- and we liked him. It was a special chemistry -- a friendship chemistry that comes from sharing something important in life with another person. Another piece of me -- another piece of my life died this week."
Added MARKY RAMONE of THE RAMONES, "You’d go to CBGB’s and in one corner you’d see DEE DEE RAMONE. In another corner you’d see DEBBIE HARRY. In another corner you’d see RICHARD HELL. In another corner would be JOHNNY RAMONE. There was a camaraderie there -- We were all in different bands -- had our different styles -- but we all got along and HILLY KRISTAL threw off that vibe the minute you walked in. It was sent to us from somewhere -- and we were all just happy to be in that place."
