A lawsuit filed by PROSPERITAS BROADCASTING SYSTEM Talk WCBC-A/CUMBERLAND, MD against the ALLEGANY COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION alleges that the school system gas shut the station out of access to high school football press boxes and school closing alerts as a retaliatory measure for its coverage of problems with school security. WCBC says that it has not been granted its application for credentials to cover the football games and received a letter on AUGUST 13 that indicated the board had decided to work with other stations. The station is seeking a preliminary injunction that would grant access to the press box in time for the SEPTEMBER 7 season openers.
WCBC's coverage of problems at the school system, including a late audit that delayed receipt of state funding and lack of adequate security at public schools drew criticism from the board earlier this year.
