CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40/Mainstream KZZP (104.7 KISS FM)/PHOENIX morning co-host CRAZY KID STEVENS remains off the air. CRAZY KID has been off the air since SEPTEMBER on-air comments made about Hurricane Katrina survivors. Some of those comments caused an outcry when some felt they were racially insensitive. Co-host RUBEN and morning sidekick CORINA have handled mornings for KZZP since then.
CRAZY KID now says that CLEAR CHANNEL wants him to agree to a list of conditions before he comes back. On the morning show's Web site, www.kidandruben.com, KID says, "CLEAR CHANNEL has now given me a list of demands and changes to the show that I must abide by in order to return to the air. Along with those changes are a list of topics that I can't talk about (race, religion, politics, the suspension, etc.)" CRAZY KID goes on to say, "Our professional integrity is worth far too much to sell out in this manner."
Unless Clear Channel's terms for my return drastically change, Ruben and I will be leaving KISS FM at the end of this year
What's next for CRAZY KID in the stand-off? On the KID AND RUBEN Web site, KID says, "unless CLEAR CHANNEL's terms for my return drastically change, RUBEN and I will be leaving KISS FM at the end of this year and moving our show to another radio station here in the Valley."
When contacted by ALL ACCESS, KZZP PD MARK MEDINA simply stated, "KID was placed on suspension on 9/1/05. He continues to serve that suspension."
